Seven Spirits of God

There has been much confusion surrounding a few Biblical references to the Seven Spirits of God mentioned in scripture. This short study will try and illuminate the meaning of this reference, and to show the beauty of what the phrase actually conveys.

We find four major names we commonly use to denote the Holy Spirit today:

1. Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost

2. Spirit of God

3. Spirit of Christ

4. Comforter

There are many symbols – dove, fire, water, candlestick lamps

But there is One Holy Spirit 

Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;  5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,  6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

But, John sees seven Spirits, why is that?

Re 1:4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;

Re 4:5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

Re 5:6  And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

The Holy Spirit is one but has seven expressions or lamps

Ex 25:31  And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.

 32 And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side:

one main, six other branches = 7

Ex 25:37 And thou shalt make the seven lamps thereof: and they shall light the lamps thereof, that they may give light over against it.

The Seven Expressions according to scripture are:   

1. Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of Grace?
   

2. Ro 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
   

3. Ro 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of Adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
   

4. Ro 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of Holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
   Isa 4:4 When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.
   

5. Zec 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of Grace and of Supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Ro 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

6.  Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of Truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
   
7. 1Pe 4:14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of Glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

Jesus was seen in the midst of:

GRACE - LIFE - ADOPTION - HOLINESS - SUPPLICATIONS - TRUTH - GLORY

Think of what these words mean in your life as a Believer. Do you now see how the Holy Spirit partners with Jesus Christ to transform our lives? What could you do today to reach those around you, to have power and boldness, and to have personal comfort and peace if you were in the midst of what the Holy Spirit were doing?

 Jesus is always in the midst of the Holy Spirit and was led by the Spirit even after His resurrection.
